INNELLEA – Slave To The Hype | MUSIC VIDEO OF THE WEEK

This music video grew out of something personal: a long friendship, a stream of voice messages, and the decision to stop overthinking.

For this Music Video of the Week, a small team worked with INNELLEA to create a piece that leans into comedy, spontaneity, and trust. The result also marks a more vulnerable creative step for the director, who had previously approached personal subjects through more dramatic and stylized work.

Below, director Marco Fumolo breaks down the creative process behind the video.

A Small Team, Built on Trust

How many people worked on your selected video? Who played a key role in it?

We were a very small team on set, around four or five people in total, working with a very small camera setup. This gave us a lot of flexibility and more time to react naturally to what was happening in the moment.

A key part of the project was the connection between INNELLEA and me. We have been best friends since we were teenagers, and there is a deep trust between us that allowed both of us to really let go and create something honest together.

A Concept That Grew Through Conversation

How long did it take to make it? What was the process (in short)?

The whole process, including planning and post-production, took around one to two months. The concept developed very naturally through voice messages between INNELLEA and me before the shoot. Whenever one of us had a funny idea, a thought, or even just a small detail, we sent it directly to each other. In this way, the concept slowly grew out of our conversations rather than from one fixed idea.

Letting Comedy Take the Lead

What challenges did you face while working on the video?

I always felt somewhere inside me that comedy is actually my genre, but I was afraid to really go there because it feels very personal to me. I have always written about my own trauma, but usually through dramatic films and stylized worlds where you can hide a little behind the atmosphere. With comedy, there is almost nothing to hide behind. For me, the biggest challenge was trusting that side of myself and allowing it to be seen.

The Heelys Scene

What part of the video is your favorite?

It’s definitely the Heelys scene.

Trusting the Process

Is there any message that the video is sending that you don’t want the viewer to miss?

The whole video came from intuition and a certain momentum between us. At some point, we stopped asking ourselves what the metaphor is, what the premise is, or what everything is supposed to mean, and simply found the joy in the process again without overthinking it too much. I think maybe exactly because of that, there is a deeper meaning somewhere inside the film. But personally, I really liked not questioning it too much this time.
