Amaia – Aralar | MUSIC VIDEO OF THE WEEK

This week’s Music Video of the Week highlights the visually ambitious video for Aralar by Amaia.

Created through volumetric capture and CGI, the project blends traditional cultural references with cutting-edge digital production techniques.

Below, Executive producer Sira Mollá + creative team breaks down the process behind Aralar.

Team & Key Creatives

How many people worked on your selected video? Who played a key role in it?

Around 25–30 people were involved across different stages of the project, from concept development and volumetric capture to CGI and post-production.

The video was co-directed by César Rodrez and Daniel Dalfó, and fully produced by Olimpic Studio, which also led the CGI and post-production work. César Rodrez also led the art direction and CG creative direction, shaping the visual world of the film.

Amaia’s performance is the emotional center of the piece and anchors the entire project.

Timeline & Production Process

How long did it take to make it? What was the process (in short)?

The project took about a month from initial approval to final delivery.

We started with concept development, storyboards and previs, and then captured Amaia using 4D volumetric scanning and Gaussian splatting, to capture both image and movement in three dimensions.

This allowed us to place her performance inside a fully CGI environment. From there the film was built through layout, lighting, rendering and compositing.

Just in case, there’s no AI involved in any part of the process 😉

Technical & Creative Challenges

What challenges did you face while working on the video?

The main challenge was working with a tight timeline while experimenting with relatively new technologies.

Amaia wasn’t filmed in a real location, her performance was captured using 4D scanning and Gaussian splatting and then placed inside a fully digital world.

The different outputs generated by these techniques meant working with complex data and integrating it into detailed 3D scenes.

Favorite Moment in the Film

What part of the video is your favorite?

We love every sequence. The volumetric capture keeps Amaia’s movement real and human, while the world around her becomes increasingly symbolic and dreamlike.

Themes & Meaning

Is there any message that the video is sending that you don’t want the viewer to miss?

The film explores the idea that cultural heritage isn’t something frozen in the past, it evolves over time.

By combining Navarre–Basque folklore with contemporary digital techniques, the video creates a dialogue between tradition and innovation.
