Deki Alem – Fun | MUSIC VIDEO OF THE WEEK

This week’s Music Video of the Week highlights the hedonistic video for Fun by Deki Alem.

Working under a compressed timeline, the director and team constructed multiple evolving environments inside the same space while juggling props, schedules, and sleepless nights.

Below, director Broken Int walks through the process behind the video, going through the small crew and accelerated production to the emotional moment that defined the final scene.

Team & Key Creatives

With only a handful of people on set, each contributor played a substantial role in shaping the production. Set design, in particular, became a critical element in building the changing environments required for the story.

How many people worked on your selected video? Who played a key role in it?

About thirteen people, with such a small team everyone has a pretty significant effect on the whole production.

Set designer Thomas Lissert definitely pulled some heavy weight, considering the circumstances explained below.

Timeline & Production Process

Rather than stretching over weeks, the shoot and post-production unfolded under a tight deadline. Much of the filming took place inside a hotel room set, with additional insert shots captured later in the director’s own apartment.

How long did it take to make it? What was the process (in short)?

We shot for two days inside the hotel room, plus one or two days of shooting adt. shots like the showers, the TV etc, in my apartment.

My deadline was two and a half weeks, total time spent editing was probably one week.

The process was compressed and janky to say the least, which I like.

A Demanding Shoot

What challenges did you face while working on the video?

Again: two days, three sets that had to progress chronologically using a ridiculous amount of trash and props, so the shooting schedules were very compressed with multiple parts moving at once.

I think I stayed up for about forty-something hours inside that room, using the night to figure out the shooting schedule to make everything fit.

We didn’t exactly work “union hours”, so I’m very thankful for my friends who stayed with me throughout the entire process.

An Intimate Final Scene

What part of the video is your favorite?

The ending, when Ruby embraces her hedonistic temptations and gets into bed with the Naked Man.

Matilda (Ruby), Natan (Naked Man) and I are very close friends, and the rest of the team had left the set so it was just us.

All sleep deprived among other things made the shoot very personal and once Matilda was on top of Natan we kind of just let her do whatever she wanted while I switched angles.

You can’t see it in the video, but when she rolled over on her back next to him, she stayed like that for some time, crying. It was beautiful.

A Thought on Temptation

While viewers may interpret the narrative in different ways, the director frames the story as a reflection on desire and resistance.

Is there any message that the video is sending that you don’t want the viewer to miss?

If you always fight against hedonism, you’re not done with it, because when you are it’s no longer tempting.
